Dick: he’s insulted.

Gutted.

He will try to give you the silent treatment for such a shameful thing but ultimately fails as he ends up being the one pawing at you for attention.

‘Do you still like me? Or did you just run out of cute nicknames to call me?’ He’d say one night as your both cuddling in bed together. ‘If it’s the later then I can help you find something, just please spare me and don’t call me dude or bro anymore.’

He’d rather you call him Richard-wait, no he hates that even more because to him you’re not meant to use his fully name, only cutesy nicknames that’d make a grown man sick to his stomach. Nothing else would suffice other than Dickie bird, handsome, babe, hunk, honeybun or anything that wasn’t his name.

He’s go mad or would act delusional and say that everything was fine when everyone could tell that it wasn’t. People who know him have personally came to you and begged you to stop calling him dude/bro because he kept talking their ears off about how his beloved partner is torturing him, which ends up torturing them even more upon hearing about his relationship issues.

Dick would even consult Hayley on what he did wrong, only for Hayley to look at him with those big, big eyes of hers. This was not her level of expertise unfortunately. (Head empty, no thoughts. She can’t do her abc’s guys it’s a real tragedy.)

Jason: ‘I just had my tongue down your throat just now and you had to go and ruin the mood by calling me bro. What the fuck.’ - Jason at some point.

It’s a whole mood killer for him to be honest.

He’s calling you things like chipmunk or sweetheart but here you were calling him dude and bro. He knows for a fact that he’s well and truly out of the friend zone because the shit you’ve done together isn’t platonic in any sort of way.

Thinks Roy had set you up to call him dude or bro behind his back. (He hasn’t)

Jason is petty and will get his own back by referring you as ‘just a really good friend’, ‘buddy o’ mine’ or even worse than both of those; ‘chum.’ 💀

When you go low, Jason was more then willing to go to the depths of fucking hell to the point it had become a game to see who’d call out just how stupid this all was, and at the both of you for ever thinking that this was an excellent idea in the first place.

You’ll probs get punished…I’m just going to leave it there and let your minds guess what that ‘punishment’ was exactly.

Damian:

As much as Damian hates it when you call him Dami, he hates it when you call him dude or bro even more, if that’s even possible.

Damian hates it when you call him dude or bro. He’s not your dude or bro, he’s your partner and he expects no less then darling, my heart or my beloved.

So you calling him dude or bro is more than enough reason for him to give you the silent treatment.

‘Until you learn that I am your partner, I won’t want to be anywhere near you if you’re going to keep calling me your bro or dude. It is a disservice to who I actually am to you.’ He says with a huff and beckons Titus to follow, only for the Great Dane to be left confused as to why his human parents were at a disagreement over something silly.

Also Titus, Ace, Jerry, Alfred the cat, Goliath and BatCow are children of divorce because I said so.

So it’s bests that you apologise while you still can because Damian can hold a grudge unlike any other. Even if you didn’t, you’d still crack first before Damian and quickly put an end to calling him dude/bro.

He just thinks being called a dude/bro when in a pre-established relationship is an insult.

He can take a joke but not when it’s aimed at his relationship. He’s well and truly devoted to his relationship -if we’re to completely ignore the whole being Robin thing- that it might as well be an insult towards him too at this point.

Nordhaven inspiration

So, you want to build and create for Nordhaven? Please do! I am no builder, and I love using other people's stuff in my game :)

Now, I'm Swedish so I figured I could help out for your inspirational needs! Pinterest is not really the best place to go...

The biggest site for buying and selling homes in Sweden is hemnet.se.

Here, you can choose what type of home you are looking for. Remember when it comes to interiors; these homes are often styled by professionals (especially in the central areas).

Alla typer = All types Villor = Villas/stand-alone homes Par/kedje/radhus = houses that are together (row houses? idk) Lägenheter = Apartments Fritidsboenden = Cottages/seasonal living places (it might not be made for all-year living) Tomter = lots Gårdar/skogar = farms, forest (meaning that this is a big home or a big piece of land) Övriga = Other types.

When typing area, you have to remember that Sweden has län, kommuner and cities/towns (stad/by). These might have the same name!

A "län" is probably like a county, while "kommun" is a smaller area. And then the city. So for example, Stockholm (city) is in Stockholms kommun, Stockholms län.

So as you can see below, many kommun belongs to the bigger län.

If you scroll down, you will find Område (areas).

These are areas within a city or kommun. Smaller towns might not have this thing, but Stockholm definitely does! If you know an area, you can write that already in the search bar. If you want inspo from Stockholm, I would say that the "Stockholm - inom tullarna" is probably where to look for apartments that look like Nordhaven's Gammelvik (especially Gamla Stan). This is the central parts of Stockholm, and will usually have a 19th-century (and ofc older) look to them. Apart from the crazy, weird boxes they built in the 90s and 80s.

Regarding Gammelvik: this is inspired by Gamla Stan and other areas that were populated in the 16th-18th century.

Once you click on an "add", you will se a picture and below there's usually one called "planritning" which will give you the layout of the home.

Where it says "NN bilder" - that means that there are pictures! This usually take you to the actual realtor's site and all the pictures!

Some guidelines:

If you want houses, I would look for Gamla Enskede if you want a Stockholmian look (from the Egnahems-movement, scroll down to "Egnahemsområden i Sverige" to get names of areas that have the same idea).

I know Malmö probably has a lot of interesting things and so does Lund and Ystad - if you want a style that is probably a bit more like Denmark. And I would love to hear from my Nordic friends!

The train station in Iverstad is supposed to be inspired by the station in Gothenburg, so do check out homes from Göteborg!

I would, for layouts of very practical homes, look for places from the folkhem-era (1945-1960) (english, and about funkis which precedes Folkhemmet). Here I would look for Vällingby Centrum, Ålsten in Bromma (specifically Ålstensgatan), Årsta/Årsta centrum.

These areas are also inspired by the ABC-idea (Arbete/work, Bostad/residence, Centrum/center). The idea here was that people should be able to walk to their work, and to social spaces (cafés, cinema, clothing stores, etc).

For inspiration about Swedish people and how we look and our lifestyle, I would recommend Swedish news, under local: SVT.se/lokalt. You might need a vpn to access. Just choose your area and read news!

hemochhyra is the news for people who rent and since they have articles about living, you might get to see interiors! (That aren't styled).

Some things; - Laundromats. These do not exist in Sweden. In a block with apartments there is a shared laundry room, which you can book if you live in the block. Some people now have washing machines in their apartments, but I have never been in an apartment building that doesn't have a shared laundry room. - For parks: I often find that Sims have a grill available. In a park in Sweden, this might not be the case. Or it's more like a place to have a bigger fire. This is usually because groups of people grill together (just google "dagisbarn grillplats"). Would love to see some version of that if you build a park! - For outdoor areas or a park, adding an ice-rink would be a nice touch. Most "kommuner" have a communal ice-rink which is usually indoors and people skate outside on actual frozen lakes - but this is probably not possible in Sims :) - Most cities were not built for cars - they are usually older than cars. Most modern areas are also built with the idea that you should be able to walk and then use public transport. There are of course exceptions to the rule, but this is a good thing to have in mind. - If any modder/cc-maker out there makes a pram that let's infants and toddlers sleep outdoors without being affected by the weather, I would be forever thankful! Swedish children nap outside very often. - A realtor that I think many simmers will like are Historiska Hem!

D, Detention - Never. She's so quiet that rarely anyone but you notices her, so she doesn't pick fights with anyone.

F, Forgotten homework- She often forgets her homework, so she always copies hers while the teacher is in the room correcting it.

N, Nervous for a presentation- She doesn't even get nervous when she hasn't studied. She's a good talker so she develops the subjects very well.

O, Organization?- Not much, but she organizes herself in her mess

P, Places she likes to be- She loves being with you on the playground, in the stands, or just walking around the school holding you close. But she certainly prefers being outside of school with you.

Q, Quitting group projects (mentally)- She hates groups. If she could, she would do the work alone, or just with you. Because she is so closed off, she often mentally gives up on doing group work.

R, Reply to teachers? - No way, she rarely speaks in class, and if she does it's to answer some question the teacher asked. She's certainly not a troublemaker.

S, Sleeping in class? - She doesn't usually do it, only in chemistry class sometimes.

T, Talking in class? - When you sit next to her, she completely loses focus on the teacher and keeps talking to you the whole class, sometimes getting some looks from the teacher.

U, Unfinished notes - Her notebook is a complete mess that only she understands. There are lessons where she doesn't copy anything, others where she makes a minimum effort.

V, Volunteering?- She hates to be noticed, so that would be a big no.

W, Weekend homework sadness- She hates getting homework for the weekend because that's usually the only time you have to be alone together.

X, X-tra credit desperation- She is slightly uneasy knowing that she may have to make a greater effort to get better grades, but in the end it all goes well.

Y, Yawning in morning classes- If there's one person who yawns the most in morning classes, it's Sae-Byeok. She always looks sleepy, with her arms crossed and yawning.

Z, Zoning out in classes?- Certainly. Zoning out is something which she certainly does. She stares at the teacher with her frowning face, but her mind simply doesn't work, and neither do her ears.

So about those 8x16 spoilers.

Clears throat. Places Optimistic Akubra firmly on head.

Read under the cut for a ramble as to why we shouldn't be fretting.

I know people are panicking/upset about the most recent spoilers for 8x16. But I'm of the belief that those spoilers aren't as doom and gloom as we think, and in the case of Buck and Tommy, they're actually GOOD news.

Let's start with the Bobby of it all. I don't think he's dead. For starters, Tim STILL regrets killing off Shannon (who wasn't even a main) over five years after the fact. He's the type that would prefer to write off his characters so that he has the opportunity to bring them back. Then there's the number of the ep that the funeral is in - this happens in ep 16 of an 18 episode season. Narratively speaking, killing someone off is usually a last episode kind of thing (or second to last if you're going to have the last episode deal with the consequences of that death - think Tara from Buffy). But, since we know eps 14 and 15 are a big two-parter, you could logically conclude that Bobby's "death" happens in 15, and 16 is the aftermath/funeral. Now there has been speculation that the two-parter is going to follow a story similar to the movie Outbreak - perhaps there are people trying to use a biological weapon and they end up kidnapping Bobby in circumstances that make everyone believe somehow Bobby was killed? Or maybe Bobby gets infected with something, and the FBI/Army fake his death because they don't want the knowledge of the contagion exposed. Who knows, I'm just spit-balling here.

Then there's the fact that since 911 moved to the abc (I know, small sample size being this is the second season) the stories to open and close the season have been heavily Bathena focused. Cruise ship, house burning down, aeroplane disaster. I mean, they are the stars of the show after all. If the trend continues, you can bet that the last two episodes will be heavily focused on them again - perhaps Athena thinking she's lost her husband and Bobby trying to get back to her.

I've also seen a few people suggest that 911 isn't getting renewed and that's why they've seemingly killed off Bobby. I dont think that's the case here. As we saw at the end of season 6 when they thought they were being cancelled, as well as how Lone Star ended, the writers of 911 like to end on a "happily ever after". There are far too many threads still in play at this point in time to be tied off for that to happen. With Athena at least, unless they do a time jump in the last ep, there's no way Athena goes from grieving widow in 8x16 to happily ever after in 8x18 (and a time jump would not only be lazy writing but seriously unsatisfying for viewers - we want to see Athena being able to move forward, and her journey getting to a happy ending, not just being shown in the last five minutes of the show that all good, she's happy again!)

Now for the bucktommy side of things. Those stills only firm up my belief that they get back together in 15. It would be a classic bait and switch - lull the audience into thinking everything is ending on a happy note with the two of them getting together and then BAM. Bobby is dead.

Not to mention, that for Buck, NOT having Buck get back together with Tommy before they "kill off" Bobby is just CRUEL. With everything he's gone through this season - the breakup, his sister's abduction, his best friend leaving - to throw the death of his father figure on top of all that? Like I said, cruel. Yes, of course he's still going to be devastated, but at least he'll have his boyfriend back for a support system.

And once again, there are too many threads to tie off before 8x18 for them to wait to reconcile until AFTER 8x15. Buck's relationship with Tommy has been his major storyline for this season - finally resolving their issues, and getting back together would be a big deal for him. If Bobby is indeed not dead, and the last few episodes are focused on him, there's just no room to breathe for Buck and Tommy's reconciliation. I mean, sure, they could have them getting back together in 16, have Buck realise that life's too short and he wants to be with Tommy, but personally I'm not a fan of this option. I feel there would always be the lingering doubt (and I know the buddies would certainly use this argument) that Buck only got back together with Tommy because he was blinded by grief, and not because he genuinely thought it through about wanting to be with him (much like they're claiming that he only slept with Tommy because he was lonely, not that he wanted them to get back together).

The fact that they've brought Tommy back again for 8x16, straight after the big two-parter, is also a VERY good sign that a reconciliation is nigh, as well as the fact that he's up with the 118 in the funeral procession - a place we've seen reserved usually for family and his station. Honestly, if they're not back together by this point, the audience would surely be getting frustrated and wondering what's going on and when the hell are they getting back together already. The more they keep bringing him back, the more it's obvious the writers are trying to embed him in the audience's mind as Buck's potential endgame - if they weren't interested in getting them back together, 8x11 would be Tommy's last appearance, and they wouldn't bother putting him in at least an additional 2-3 episodes later that same season.

Once again, this is all speculation based on what we've seen on the show over the years and what you expect to see from a general episodic TV formula. I could be completely wrong, in which case I will begrudgingly trade in my Akubra for a clown wig. But until we find out after those episodes air, the good old Optimistic Akubra stays on.

Disclaimer: This may be a bit chaotic (also sorry for my English), I never done this type of post before and I assume you know the show so I don’t go into details of every event - you saw them, you know what they’re about. And it all comes down to Buddie going canon. Here we go, enjoy! (warning 3,6k words)

If we take a look at 911 from a distance some things fall in an interesting pattern. I believe at least part of it is intentional. And if this theory is correct - standing ovations for the creators are in order, because they kept the continuity of the previous seasons while simultaneously re-launching the series. We have introductions of the main characters, we revisit big moments from their lives (sometimes in a more flashy way, sometimes more subtle), and we get a new perspective from them (those big moments) to show the character’s growth.

Ok, what’s the theory?

You should watch seasons 7 and 8 as seasons 1 and 2 on abc.

But Tim isn’t simply retelling the story. He takes the core emotion from a big event and puts it into new scenery with inclusion of how the character had changed over the seasons 1-6. 

Before I jump into Buck and Eddie, let's look at a few examples. 

ATHENA:

Introduction of Athena in season 1 goes with her marriage problems. The same in season 7 (it’s one-sided, because it’s her story, not Bobby’s).

May suicide attempt -> in season 7 there is this unnerving vibe around Bobby’s retiring actions, especially when Athena is talking with him (at least I felt this suicidal vibe and we all thought for a moment Bobby is responsible for their house burning down).

The reason why Athena became a cop, the tragic story of her fiance -> bringing back Jenkins in season 8. This plot could work without him, there could be just some no-name prisoner and Athena could simply get the order to escort him without any deep explanation - but the main core of this plot was to revisit Athena’s past.

She was attacked/in mortal danger on the job -> the whole plane disaster in season 8 (and I’ll get back to that because this is the key moment in Bathena story, this is their core).

BOBBY:

His alcoholism is haunting him and it leads to his house burning down while he’s trying to save his wife (and all of this is the result of his actions). His arc in season 7 covers his past.

And also his relationship with the 118 get’s the familiar spotlight - him being a father figure for the team. Everyone comes to him for advice while he’s forced to be away from his firehouse - and during those conversations he’s in the middle of planning his future with Athena (previously their wedding, now it’s about their new home).

As for them as a couple it’s the plot lines of Athena being attacked and her landing the plane. She is in danger, doing her job, he is the one watching/listening. But while in the past he was powerless, merely an audience to her fight, now he is her partner, he’s in danger with her and it’s his choice (with the cruise ship they both were thrown into the danger, this wasn’t the parallel to the past). And yes, this is their characteristic, but when you’re new to the show, you started watching it with season 7, you may not know this about them… so here, Tim is showing you what Bathena is about, ride or die partners with unwavering faith in each other.

Again, the core element of the big moment and the emotional growth/journey of the characters (introduction while keeping the continuity - revisiting the events, not retelling them).

HEN:

She has a very big plot line that includes a few big events from her life.

The plot with Ortiz’s son reminds me of the girl Hen hit with an ambulance. Back then Hen was a mess, doubtful about herself, and people around her reminded her that she did everything right. Now she doesn’t doubt, she’s sure, even when there is not enough conviction from her team. 

Following this plot we have the whole thing with Ortiz and Mara - which basically is covering the same core aspect we saw with Eva and Denny.

For Hen, family is the most important, actually for her and Karen - and this part also shows their journey as the power couple - because now they’re fighting together for their child (against Ortiz) and not with each other (like it was when Eva was threatening their family). They’re much stronger now, after all those years, family love guiding them through life.

CHIM & MADDIE:

They both have their respective episodes in season 7.

Chimney: Why put Doug there? Why Kevin and karaoke bar (the backstory of how Chim became a firefighter) if not for the introduction of the character, for revisiting his big moments…? 

Maddie and the call with the abducted woman -> we learn later it was her stalker not her husband, but Maddie assumes it’s the husband because of her own trauma. And in the same episode her postpartum depression is also addressed -> the abducted woman is separated from her baby - it’s symbolic but it’s there (like I said, not everything is flashy).

As for Madney - it’s all in the way they’re looking for each other when their mental state is in question (past - Maddie in Boston, present - Chim being sick). Their emotional journey lies in the way of how sure of their love they are. Again, in the past they were taking things slow, finding each other but giving each other space and time, careful “i love you” etc - Now they speed things up by getting married right away, right there in the hospital - because they’re sure.

There are more core things (and revisits) to all characters but I won’t go deeper into this because I want to talk about Buddie (with more details)... so…

All 3 power couples got introduced and redefined anew for the new audience, but the core of what makes them Bathena, Henren, and Madney remained the same - just bigger, bolder, stronger… What remains, in the spectrum of main relationships, waiting to receive the same treatment, is Buddie.

EDDIE:

Through season 7 and 8 so far we got to see main aspects of Eddie - soldier, father, widower, best friend (yes, there are elements of them being more, of some deeper feelings, especially from Eddie’s side - this is the part of the continuity from previous seasons… but because seasons 7 and 8 are new seasons 1 and 2, Buddie is leaning a little more to the “best friends” side - for now… it just started to change with episode 8x05).

We learn about Eddie’s character - he’s caring but also sassy, he works great under pressure, he’s not superstitious, he panics when relationships get too serious (not full blown panic attacks this time, but catholic guilt plays the same role here).

The big moment from Eddie’s past is Shannon’s death. The show can’t tell this story again, can’t kill Shannon again, but they can show the new audience the impact Shannon had (and still has) on Eddie’s life -> and here we have the whole “Kim plot”. 

One more thing worth mentioning about Eddie and parallels is that he left Chris and his wife in the past -> now Chris is the one who left him, and the only relationship his son has to offer to Eddie is a glitching facetime video in a moment of the day when he’s busy (Chris) - sounds familiar.

Yes, there are more big moments in previous seasons, but each of them is intertwined with Buck, ergo can’t be discussed without him. So let’s jump into Buck now.

BUCK:

Just like with Eddie we get the reminder of main characteristic of Buck in form of: infodumping, ingenuity, thinking outside the box, being good/capable on a job, abandonment issues (Eddie spending time with Tommy), craving for approval/affirmation (he hates Gerrard and still seeks that pat on the back and “good boy” comment), his spiraling and believe in supernatural, and he’s like a kid in 118 family.

I feel like we got all of his aspects (and the same with Eddie’s) that we know from previous seasons in an easy to swallow pill, coated with a bit of comedy.

Big moments in Buck’s life include Eddie, but there are few relationships that are very important to this character that are highlighted in seasons 7 and 8). 

Christopher. For now we don’t really see the depth of Buck’s and Chris' relationship. New audience can safely say he is somewhat of a “fun uncle” for Chris (right now Chris is his best friend’s son) - this is because we still haven’t seen the equivalent of what created the bond between them - the tsunami (I believe we will get that when Chris comes back from Texas or his return will include scenes related to their bond and this big event from their lives).

Maddie. This one is simple for now, they’re great siblings, they support each other, the upcoming scene with Maddie should add more.

Best friend Eddie - partners on a job and in crime, knowing each other so well they can read every small signals (it’s mostly visible in 7x01 and 8x01), showing up for each other etc - you all know what I mean - Eddie jumping into idea of bachelor party, Buck confronting Eddie about Kim, Buck’s coming out, Eddie asking for help with Chris (twice) - all of that have (mostly) subtle Buddie themed moments (smiles, looks, wording) but what screams loudly is that they’re best friends (like you’ve never seen better friends than them). Like I said before it started to change in 8x05, and even earlier we see a little bit more of Eddie, like he’s kind of in the background - just remember this, I’ll explain in more details later.

Bobby. This relationship is highlighted the most, and after the first 3 episodes of season 8 nobody has any doubt that Bobby is like a father to Buck (in case somebody missed it in 7x10). In previous seasons we saw how this father-son thing evolved between them (whole season 1, lawsuit, Buck spiraling because of radiation Bobby “absorbed”, coma dream, etc), and now we get the speed run through it to establish how it works.

There is one more very important relationship in Buck’s life that also counts as Buck’s big moment. And it’s Abby, who is represented by Tommy. Older, more experienced love interest, who shows Buck he still has something to learn about relationships, who changes his perspective. It goes further. Remember the guy who was catfishing girls with Buck’s photos? Remember when he was in a meeting with Abby and a girl came up to them? Abby didn’t like what she heard and left Buck cold in that cafe/restaurant. Sounds familiar? Yeah, it should. His first date with Tommy, interrupted by someone, where Tommy didn’t like Buck’s behavior and left him on a curb. What’s important, none of them (not Tommy nor Abby) told him it was over, they were disappointed, of course, but left with the vibe “contact me when you grow up”/”I don’t do dramas”. Again, this is parallel, the revisit to the past event (core of the scenes remains) but the point here is not to tell the same story again but show something new, so Buck’s relationship with Tommy goes in its own way.

I would like to address the lightning strike here, because I believe this event won’t get ��the revisit” treatment. It was mentioned in background in season 7 - the locker room scene with Eddie and how Buck tells Tommy the night they met was the best one he had since he died (or something like that). So the lightning strike exists already in season 7 and 8 narrative for the new audience.

Ok. In previous seasons we saw all main couples dating and getting married - basically becoming what they are now. And we saw how Buck’s and Eddie’s relationship grew and evolved throughout the seasons - but they never reached the status of a couple.

So we are now at 8x05, we have all main characters introduced, all power couples redefined by some huge events that made them stronger. We have Buck and Eddie - best friends for life - now is the time to show Buddie of it all.

BUDDIE:

Believe it or not, episode 5 is about Buddie in so many ways, but not in a way you think it is… It’s about retelling their emotional journey, their bonding path and what makes their relationship so special. Yes, I’m using “retelling” here, because the story of their feelings never reached the conclusion, it was always between the lines, and now it can be told anew. Tim already had the perfect recipe for them, so now he is using the core ingredients, to once more reach the point where making them a couple will feel natural. It’s not only about making them canon, it’s about telling beautiful love story - patience is important, their emotional state is the key and has to be set up just right. 

Ok. Masks. This title is a red herring in itself. If we talk about who is wearing a mask the answer is simple - everybody, it’s a Halloween episode. Going deeper we can say - it’s Eddie with his ‘fine’ mask. Let’s go even deeper, it’s not a noun “masks” (in plural), it’s a verb. The whole episode is masking itself, and it’s masking who the story is about. We have two major plot lines here, Buck’s (a comedy) and Henren (drama), both very loud and over the top, making the audience look in one way when in the background another story is unfolding. Red herrings everywhere.

What are the big moments from Buck’s and Eddie’s life that are hidden in this episode? When did Buddie truly start? Firetruck, tsunami, lawsuit, fight club, divorce era… yes, it’s all there… well, tsunami is only mentioned there because it’s Buck and Chis arc, but the important moment for Buddie after the tsunami is still represented in this episode by Karen’s words “You saved him”. Let’s break it down.

BUCK:

Firetruck: the event itself is represented in Denny’s accident. He’s pinned by the vehicle, Karen is holding his hand while others are trying to save him, there is and audience to his tragedy, a lot of people (in this case firefighters) are working together (building the construction) to get him out, the accident was caused by a man who was driven by vengeance/seeking justice, in the end Denny has his leg in cast - the same leg Buck had.

Lawsuit: The whole Buck’s curse plot - injury on a job (to his limb), aftermath of which he ends up with a medical condition (boils = blood thinners), which causes him to focus solely on himself. Buck is so self absorbed in this episode he doesn’t notice his own boyfriend, let alone his best friend (if you want me to write a longer post about Buddie in corelation to Buck and Tommy and why imo Buck is a lame boyfriend in this episode let me know - I won’t do that in this post).

The things above are like playing with the form of what I mentioned before - revisiting previous events. What’s important here is the emotional state of Buck. He learns very quickly he can come back to his job (Eddie is asking about it, because he knows how important it is for Buck) but the boils ultimately send him on a spiral and right back to the self absorbed state of mind - and the reason for it is to make him blind on what’s going on with Eddie.

EDDIE:

Fight club and divorce era are played out here only in Eddie’s emotional state because the show is putting Eddie in the background on purpose so we can’t have big moments played out in a form of parallel scenes. 

But just like with the fight club, Eddie is distancing himself from the firefam. I said already that Eddie is kinda in the background - this is the part where we can see Eddie isolated and alone, in this episode it screams the loudest (compared to the previous ones). 

The haunted house - Hen is terrifying, Chim is scary, even Buck, whose job was to give out candy, managed to freak everybody out (including himself) - only Eddie is this lame and cringe werewolf wannabe. This is a metaphorical, subtle way to show he stands out from the rest of the team. He’s with them but he is alone in the crowd. They have to ask him about Chris, he’s not talking about him himself and he’s keeping his ‘i’m fine’ mask on (pun intended). In fight club era Eddie is grieving after Shannon, now he’s grieving his relationship with Chris. He’s hiding his pain just like he was hiding his bruises.

Divorce era can be seen in a way Eddie interacts with Buck. He’s losing his patience sooner than usual, is meaner in his comments because he’s running on fumes, getting closer to his breaking point (it could escalate, we know he can snap when he can’t deal with his emotions). He doesn’t look at Buck - and I know, it’s because of the things on Buck’s face, hiding behind the magazine, sucking on lollipop… but honestly, do we actually believe that? Or the comedy of those scenes masked that they’re disconnected right now (actually they’re disconnected since Gerrard made them work separately. How they miss each other's eyes in the courtroom - it started there). The episode ends so blatantly showing us Buck talking bullshit with his head so far up his behind he doesn’t think for a second that Eddie needs him. And Eddie, well, he’s fighting alone, just like he was when he stepped into the ring.

WHAT’S NEXT:

If I’m right about all this, and not just insane, we will see 4 more big events - or rather the emotional state those events invoked. 

Kitchen scene - Buck being sorry for not being there for Eddie, when he needed him (the tension aspect of the scene would be nice, but the actual core of this scene is Buck admitting he failed Eddie and Eddie actually listening and accepting Buck’s words).

Well - Eddie has to save himself, deal with something on his own (with only briefly mentioning Buck, mostly Chris).

Will - this has to be addressed at some point. We know about the will but people who started watching from season 7 don’t. This will be clear, no red herrings, no telling story in the background.

Shooting arc - Buck being scared he may lose Eddie. It doesn’t have to be a near death experience, it can be Eddie deciding he’ll move to Texas - the core is fear of losing his… right, what? Best friend? When we reach this point they’ll be more, and “best friends” term won’t be enough, not even to the general audience. 

After that we can start talking about Buddie canon.

Of course there will be more scenes, new scenes, the characters are still growing but in my opinion Tim is trying to set up and show similar emotional journey for them, right up to the point when we should have had Buddie… and he will pick up where he left them, messed up and vulnerable and so in love with each other it’s overwhelming (shooting arc)… then we will go in a straight line to the Buddie canon.

I don’t want to make predictions, I’m bad at it. I prefer to analyze. But in my opinion and what I know about the next episode, I think the well call will serve as a reminder about Eddie Begins, the actual connection between past and present will be in the mustache scene (or right before the mustache scene). 

Final thoughts.

We all see the parallels between different characters and between previous seasons and new ones. We get frustrated about some plot lines and episodes (Bobby episode, Kim plot line)... But if you take a few steps back and look at season 7 as season 1 it makes sense to show these threads again. If you look at all the elements we talk about as a fandom you will see it’s one huge project, not just hints placed here and there. And it’s not just for the benefit of long term fans, it’s for the new audience to get to know these characters, to fall in love with them, to make them curious enough to watch previous seasons.

We all feel it, this carefree vibe from season 1, we’re all falling in love again, saying season 8 has what’s the best in 911, has it all. And I believe it’s because of what I wrote above, these new introductions of characters and relationships. 

One relationship remains to be shown in all its beautiful and unhinged glory - Buddie.

And I believe once we get the equivalent of a shooting arc we will get Buddie canon - this time Tim will tell their story how he wanted - with Buck and Eddie together, as a couple, as soulmates.

Why Are We Losing Buck's Loft NOW?

There's a speculation that Ryan Guzman's contract is under re-negotiation. Thus, his future in 9-1-1 OG is uncertain.

If that's so, why didn't they lease Eddie's house to a stranger? Thus, if Ryan stayed, Eddie could be back to his own house.

Letting Buck's loft go seems permanent, like burning Bathena's house down.

There are several possibilities floating around:

1)) It has been decided that Ryan is leaving the OG show.

Either he will join the Nashville spin-off or will cut ties off with 9-1-1 entirely.

If that's so, why didn't they wait until the end of the season to let Buck's loft go? They could sublet Eddie's house to a stranger until the end of the season before making Buck move into it. Why NOW? Letting the loft go NOW only fuels speculations about Eddie leaving permanently. This could upset Eddie's fans. Logically, the show wants to avoid that.

2)) As a leverage against Ryan in the contract re-negotiation.

Some people think it's a bluff from ABC in the contract negotiation. People in ABC are giving Ryan a signal that he would be let go if he didn't agree with their term.

I doubt it. That move is more likely to have the opposite effect. Since they HAVE let Buck's loft go, Eddie would be Buck's roommate if he returned to LA. It will perpetuate the Buddie stans' delusion that Eddie is gay. Ryan's work to portray a heterosexual man with a bisexual best friend would be undermined. Ryan's insistence that Eddie and himself are both straight (which he has said again and again in multiple interviews, lol) would be futile. If anything, the prospect of Eddie as Buck's roommate would push Ryan further from renewing his contract.

There's another thing that might dampen Ryan's willingness to stay: Tim Minear's apparent insistence to bait the Buddie fans. In ep. 8x05, Eddie's "I am stright" statement is countered with a talk about beard within the same conversation. In ep. 8x09, Buck said, "I didn’t mean to OUT YOU in front of Cap and everyone else." That sentence could be easily replaced with "I didn’t mean to tell everyone that you're leaving," which feels more natural to be said. Regardless what Tim has said in interviews, the baiting game is on, lmfao.

3)) To make Buddie canon.

If you put a pair of Buddie goggles on, you can see how it works: Eddie returns to LA with Christopher -> become Buck's roommate -> feelings realization -> Buddie canon.

Now, put the goggles off and consider these:

Buck's only male partner who has been proven to be liked by A BIG PART of the General Audience is Tommy. If they didn't reunite Bucktommy, it's most probably because they assume that the MAJORITY of GA doesn't like to see Buck with a man. If they chickened out from reuniting Bucktommy, despite the support from a part of the GA, how on earth they would have the gut to make Buddie, whom GA knows nothing about, canon?

There is almost no benefit for ABC to make Buddie canon. GA doesn't know about Buddie. Even if Buddie never canon, Buddie fans keep watching the show and Buddie writers keep bringing Buddie up in every article for clicks and engagements. Making Buddie canon might increase the exposure to the show for a while. However, if ABC and Tim Minear assumed that most of the GA didn't like to see Buck with a boyfriend (and they had broken Bucktommy up because of it), I don't think they would take the risk of losing their existing audience for online engagements.

Here's another prove that the GA doesn't care about Buddie. Ep. 8x09 "Sob Stories" is about Eddie leaving, possibly permanently (he put a down payment on a house in Texas!). Have you seen GA complained about Eddie's leaving the way they did when Tommy's leaving? No? That's how you know that Eddie is NOT a big draw for GA (no offense to Ryan Guzman). I'm sure people in ABC also notice that.

EDIT: Someone mentioned that GA might complain if Ryan did 'exit' interviews, like Lou did before. I don't think so. GA didn't read Lou's exit interview. While writing this edit, the Fangirlish interview only has 7 comments, while the Decider interview has an invitation to "Be the first to comment", lol. If GA read those exit interviews, there would be a lot of complaints on the articles, similar like the ones on the ABC's IG and FB accounts. ABC has known those interviewers are biased towards Buddie. Those interviews are directed to fans, not to GA.

4)) Budget constraint.

ABC knows that there will be a significant cost increase in the near future:

Season 8 is the time for Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Ryan Guzman's contracts renewal.

JLH's involvement in the second sequeal of I Know What You Did Last Summer proves that people in the industry still consider her as a big draw for audience worldwide. She could demand a significant raise based on it.

Ep. 8x09 has the highest rating of the season so far (5.3). It's even higher than the airplane disaster (5.1). Why? Because the Scream Queen was screaming, and the GA wanted to see that. JLH might add this fact to her ammo in her contract negotiation.

A significant raise for JLH could mean budget cut in other areas:

a) Ryan might not get a raise with the amount he expected.

This has happened in Grey's Anatomy. Renewing Ellen Pompeo's contract for $20 million a year allegedly has prompted Jessica Chapshaw and Sarah Drew to leave the show, because they didn't get their expected raise. It also happened in Inside Out 2. Amy Pohler's $5 million pay took a big portion of the budget. Thus, Pixar decided to cheap out the other cast members, prompting Bill Hader and Mindy Kalling's refusal to return.

b) They have to scale down the production.

There have been rumors that budget cut is the reason behind the reduced appearance of recurring characters in this season. There's also the fact that Bathena's house has been burnt down. So far, there is no sign of their new house, but I guess it would be a scale down. It's also probably why they decided to let Buck's loft go.

5)) To push Buck to live with Tommy if Eddie returns.

This is mostly a joke among Bucktommy nations. However, let's think about it seriously to cover all the bases. Is it possible? Very unlikely. Tommy has a car lift and a Muay Thai ring. That kind of place is not cheap. There's a reason why we never saw Tommy's house during Season 7. Assuming Buck and Tommy get back together, if the show had to let Bathena's house go for budget reason, I doubt Buck would move to Tommy's house anytime soon.

6)) To bait the Buddie fans

The GA did not see Tommy being insecure about Eddie before, the GA did not think 7x4 was really about Eddie. I don't know if what you're trying to say is that they are doing Buddie after all, but if it is that, then I must disagree. The show is being very clear in not wanting to do that, and some interviews (not all) are being clear on not wanting to do Buddie as well. Sure, Tim's can be questionable at times, but even he has said this is not the path they're going down.

Truth time? I think they went this way mainly for one reason:

It was the easiest and quickest choice.

Let me explain. The end of 806 introduces us to a Tommy that is vulnerable and insecure, and does not see himself as enough for Buck long-term. We are presented with someone who wants to be Buck's last, but who is convinced he won't be. At this point, he didn't dwell further into this, and we all assumed it was something inherently his. And, whilst to a certain degree it is, that would be a much harder issue to solve for 911. As a matter of fact, this is a big cast, and they cannot give BT several episodes to work through their stuff. Especially considering Lou is recurring and not a main. Therefore, they have a limited frame to fit all they want.

So. What is the best solution? To have Tommy be insecure about his role in Buck's life long-term, because he thinks that Buck could fall for the guy that was by his side for several years*, instead than falling for him. A valid worry, even if Eddie was his friend too and never showed to be jealous of their relationship. Do I think it could've been introduced better? Hell yeah. But they're working with what they have.

And by doing this, they do make sure they have an issue they can solve rather easily, by having Buck show Tommy he loves him and wants to be with him, whilst also making sure that the craziest fans see that Buddie is not happening**.

Perhaps 811 was influenced by the crazy fans. But I fully believe it wasn't any type of gift for them.

No matter if Bobby's death is real or not, Tim's decision to do what he did with Bobby will have consequences. The show needs to handle this in such a way that they don't piss off anymore people than they have already pissed off before they go into hiatus. They will need to make sure that most of the audience is happy and satisfied with the ending of season 8.

The huge outcry for Eddie Diaz over the last two weeks have shown them that Eddie matters and that he is important to a lot of people. They can't afford to do him dirty and sideline him again. People would riot.

So what would be THE ONE THING they could do to give a big part of the audience that happy feeling again? Bring Eddie back and set sail to Buddie.

I'm quite sure that Buck won't need a lot now to realise that he's in love with Eddie after all that's happened. Bobby's death (or non death) could make him think about all the things he is denying himself and maybe he should just give into the feelings for his best friend.

And Eddie could start that journey to find joy as well and he'll realise that his joy is partly tied up with Buck. I don't think we'll ever get a complete 'coming out' arc for Eddie. We never got one for Buck either. I have a feeling that Eddie will just realise that those feelings he has for Buck are more than just friendship. He might have questions about his sexuality along the way, but I don't expect them in season 8.

They will simply be two friends who realise that life is short and it can all be over just like that. So maybe they should stop wasting time and choose each other already. 🤷‍♀️
